Terms of Use

Last updated: 30 October 2026

These terms apply to the JClub apps for iPhone, iPad and Android, the JClub website at jclub.com.au, and any JClub web app (together, JClub). JClub is run by JClub Technologies Pty Ltd (ACN 700 683 165), Australia ("we", "us"). By using JClub you agree to these terms. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data.

What JClub is — and is not

JClub helps researchers keep up with the literature: it shows new papers from journals and preprint servers, ranks them for you, and links you to the source.

  • AI summaries can be wrong. The summaries and briefs in JClub are written by AI — about papers, from their titles and abstracts; about news stories, from the stories’ own text. They may miss or misstate findings. Always check anything important against the paper or story itself.
  • Not medical, clinical or professional advice. Nothing in JClub — summaries, papers, rankings or sponsored content — is advice about anyone’s health, treatment or care, and it must not be used as such. Preprints have not been peer reviewed.
  • Papers belong to their authors and publishers. JClub shows titles and other details about papers, abstracts only where the paper’s licence allows it, and links to the original. We do not guarantee that information from PubMed, OpenAlex, Crossref, preprint servers or publishers is complete or accurate.

Who can use JClub

You must be at least 16 years old to use JClub. If you create an account, keep your sign-in secure — you are responsible for what happens under your account. One person per account.

Labs and anything you share

Labs are small groups that share papers. What you add to a lab — its name, the papers you pin, your notes — stays yours. You give us permission to store it and show it to the members of that lab, and to keep it as long as the lab needs it to work (for example, papers you pinned stay in the lab after you leave, unless you remove them first).

When you use Labs, or anything else in JClub, do not:

  • post anything unlawful, harassing, threatening, hateful, sexually explicit, or that invades someone’s privacy;
  • share material you do not have the right to share — in particular, do not paste the full text of papers you do not have the right to share;
  • pretend to be someone else, spam people, or send invite links to people who did not ask for them;
  • scrape JClub, download its content in bulk, or access it with bots or other automated tools (other than the links and share features we provide);
  • try to break, overload or get around JClub’s security, or reverse engineer the app except as the law allows;
  • use JClub to build a competing database or service.

Report and block. You can report a lab, a pinned paper or a member from inside the lab, and block a member so you no longer see what they share. We review reports and may remove content, remove someone from a lab, or suspend an account. You can also write to support@jclub.com.au.

Other people’s content and services

  • Journal and publisher names are trademarks of their owners. JClub is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any journal, publisher, library or database it shows.
  • Your library. If you use JClub to open papers through your library, your library’s terms and its licences with publishers apply to you. JClub never sees your library password.
  • Connected services — Google or Apple sign-in, ORCID, Zotero, Mendeley, LibKey — are run by other companies under their own terms. If you connect one, you are responsible for following its terms.
  • Sponsored content is always labelled as an ad and comes from the advertiser, not from JClub. We do not endorse advertisers’ products or claims.

If you believe something in JClub infringes your copyright, email support@jclub.com.au with: what the work is, where it appears in JClub, your contact details, and a statement that you own the rights (or act for the owner) and that the information is accurate. We will remove or disable it promptly if the complaint is valid.

Our part

JClub — its software, design and our own text, including our AI summaries — belongs to us. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use it for your own research and work, under these terms. We may change, add or remove features, and JClub may sometimes be unavailable. JClub is free today; if we ever charge for a feature, we will show you the price and the terms before you pay, and app store purchases follow the store’s rules.

Ending your use

You can stop using JClub at any time, and delete your account in Settings → Delete account. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts others at risk; where we reasonably can, we will tell you why first. The parts of these terms that by their nature should continue (for example, about content you shared and liability) continue after your use ends.

Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits rights you have under consumer law that cannot be excluded — including the consumer guarantees in the Australian Consumer Law, and the consumer laws of the UK or the EU if you live there.

Subject to that: JClub is provided as it is; to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from your reliance on summaries, papers or other information in JClub, or for indirect or consequential loss; and where our liability for a consumer guarantee can be limited, it is limited to supplying the service again or paying for it to be supplied again. We do not limit liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

App stores

If you got JClub from the Apple App Store or Google Play, these terms are between you and us, not Apple or Google, and we — not they — are responsible for JClub and its support. On Apple devices, Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies, and Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms who may enforce them against you.

Changes and governing law

We may update these terms. If a change matters, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect, and where needed ask you to accept it again (for example, the next time you create or join a lab). These terms are governed by the law of New South Wales, Australia, and its courts can hear any dispute. If you are a consumer living in the UK or the EU, you can also bring a claim in your own country’s courts, and the mandatory protections of your country’s law still apply.
